17 Μαρ 2009 · I have a friend that has a Tolley 8br and I called him today to ask about the gun. He values his gun at $1200. I have fired this gun and it has 34" Damascus barrels and was reproofed in 2001 for nitro. However, he only shoots black powder in it. This gun is a very strong 90% with the maker's hard case, containers & tools.
16 Οκτ 2021 · looks like a nice “punt gun” which would have been used for market shooting of large numbers of waterfowl from a small boat or punt. With Damascus barrels it should be considered a black powder only shotgun. Short summary on history from another forum below.
3 Οκτ 2023 · Barrels on older 8-gauge shotguns made before 1900 were made of Damascus, iron and steel layers that were hammered and twisted into a tube. A typical black powder load with Damascus barrels meant 1.5 to 2 ounces of lead shot.
25 Ιουν 2017 · It was a bar-action gun by J&W Tolley, with rounded profile bar, quality damascus barrels, early, straight-drive strikers and ‘C’ scroll hammers, (later hammer guns have the strikers at an angle, as they are less prone to stick in soft centre-fire cartridge caps that way) and very tasteful full-coverage engraving.
26 Νοε 2013 · I have a friend that has a 12 gauge Tolley hammergun with fluid steel barrels . The second saturday of dove season here in Virginia he was shooting the gun when the under rib on the gun let go . Hence his barrels and my VHE 12 barrels are at Gaicamo's getting resoldered etc . _____
The top-lever operates Tolley 1877 patent ‘Screw Grip’ third bite and double Purdey under-bolt. Barrels are on-face and jointing appears good. Barrels are of dovetail lump construction, Birmingham (post 1925) nitro proof for 3 ¼ Tons and 2oz shot.
13 Δεκ 2020 · Standard steel can go through any nitro proof barrel in good condition (the Proof House also says that pre-1954 proof marks should be submitted for Nitro re-proofing) and no one has set a lower threshold for barrel wall thickness for nitro proof guns.
