3 Οκτ 2023 · By the late 19th century, the barrels on 8-gauge shotguns were made of fluid steel and able to take the pressure of smokeless powder. That meant the 8 gauge could deliver a load of lead shot in the range of 2 to 2.5 ounces.
17 Μαρ 2009 · I have a friend that has a Tolley 8br and I called him today to ask about the gun. He values his gun at $1200. I have fired this gun and it has 34" Damascus barrels and was reproofed in 2001 for nitro. However, he only shoots black powder in it. This gun is a very strong 90% with the maker's hard case, containers & tools.
19 Μαΐ 2007 · The 36” fluid steel barrel has excellent mirror bore, 3 ¼” chamber, .860 bore diameter with extra full choke has only a few handling marks and 98% blue. The mechanics are excellent, with a crisp trigger, strong springs, and perfect screws.
An 8 bore is a .835 in (21.2 mm) caliber firearm. Historically it was used to fire solid projectiles from smoothbores, rifles, and partially rifled ball and shot guns, as well as shot from muzzle-loading and breech-loading shotguns. Later breech loaders were designed to fire cartridges.

J & W Tolley 8 bore shotgun. Hannmer gun Non-ejector. The gun as been held in a private collection for many years and remains in very good condition. 36″ Barrels, 15″ Stock, 3 3/4 (95mm)chambers.
The top-lever operates Tolley 1877 patent ‘Screw Grip’ third bite and double Purdey under-bolt. Barrels are on-face and jointing appears good. Barrels are of dovetail lump construction, Birmingham (post 1925) nitro proof for 3 ¼ Tons and 2oz shot.
