When you have a project that requires digging, your first step is to contact Iowa One Call. You can do this by calling 811 or 1-800-292-8989 . You can also file your locate requests online by clicking on the “Submit a Ticket” button above.
Anyone who plans to dig should call 811 or go to their state 811 center’s website to request the approximate location of buried utilities be marked. 811 is the national call-before-you-dig phone number.
The national 811 three-digit dialing system allows easy access to Iowa One Call. You can simply dial 811 to be connected to a live person at the call center. (If you are near the Iowa border or out of the state, dial 1-800-292-8989).
811 is a new federally-mandated N-11 number designated by the FCC to consolidate all local "Call before you Dig" numbers and help save lives by minimizing damages to underground utilities. One easy phone call to 811 quickly and easily begins the process of getting underground utility lines marked.
