24 Σεπ 2024 · Over 70% of totally blind people in the United States suffer from non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder. This condition disrupts their body’s circadian rhythm, leading to trouble sleeping at night and excessive daytime drowsiness.
Altogether, the frequency of sleep disturbances in blind individuals is close to 60–80% and over half of totally blind patients may have non-24 SWRD. The prevalence, gender, and ethnic differences of non-24 SWRD in adults and children remain unknown.

It has been estimated that non-24 occurs in more than half of all people who are totally blind. [2][8][9] The disorder can occur at any age, from birth onwards.
