The ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct were adopted by the ABA House of Delegates in 1983. They serve as models for the ethics rules of most jurisdictions. Before the adoption of the Model Rules, the ABA model was the 1969 Model Code of Professional Responsibility.
The Model Rules of Professional Conduct are intended to serve as a national framework for implementation of standards of professional conduct. The 2021 Edition of the Model Rules provides an up-to-date resource for information on lawyer ethics.

27 Αυγ 2018 · The New Rule 4.1 “Truthfulness in Statements to Others” When the new and revised Rules of Professional Conduct become effective on November 1, 2018, California will finally join the other forty-nine states which have already adopted some version of American Bar Association [ABA] Model Rule 4.1 “Truthfulness in Statements to Others.”
Washington (like most states) has adopted the ABA's Model Rules of Professional Conduct. But adopting the rules is not simply a matter of copying and pasting. The Washington Supreme Court has used its rulemaking process (see GR 9) to adapt the rules for our state.
