The "positive" or "negative" part of your blood type, such as O positive or A negative, refers to your Rh status. During pregnancy, problems can occur if you are Rh negative and your fetus is Rh positive. Treatment can be given to prevent these problems.
Every person has a blood type (O, A, B, or AB) and an Rh factor, either positive or negative. The blood type and the Rh factor simply mean that a person's blood has certain specific features. The blood type is found as proteins on red blood cells and in body fluids.
29 Ιουλ 2022 · Your pregnancy needs special care if you're Rh negative and your baby is Rh positive. That's called Rh incompatibility. A baby can inherit the Rh factor from either parent. Your health care provider will advise that you have a blood type and Rh factor screening test during your first prenatal visit.
If the baby's Rh factor is positive, like his or her father's, this can be an issue if the baby's red blood cells cross to the Rh negative mother. When this happens, the mom becomes sensitized to Rh positive blood.
