Recent studies have shown that treatment of gynecological cancers during pregnancy is attainable, although oncological treatment needs to be individualized to ensure optimal maternal care and minimize potential effects to the fetus, while meeting the psychosocial needs of the family.
On the other hand, regimens such as cyclophosphamide, methotrexate and fluorouracil (5-FU) (CMF) should be completely avoided, given the high abortive properties of methotrex-ate and the lack of particular importance of such a regimen in current breast cancer management.
Here, we provide the ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines for managing patients diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy. Also, we provide guidance on fertility considerations for women desiring pregnancy following cancer diagnosis.
