22 Νοε 2022 · An A1C test measures the average amount of sugar in your blood over the past few months. Healthcare providers use it to help diagnose prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes and to monitor how well your diabetes treatment plan is working.
The A1C is a blood test that tells you what your average blood sugar (blood glucose) levels have been for the past two to three months. It measures how much sugar is attached to your red blood cells. If your blood sugar is frequently high, more will be attached to your blood cells.
A1C is a three-month average of the percentage of your red blood cells that are coated with sugar. Most people who have diabetes get their A1C checked once or twice a year.
The American Diabetes Association now recommends the use of a new term in diabetes management, “estimated average glucose,” or “eAG.” It’s a way that health professionals can report an A1c result to you in the same measurements you’re used to, either mg/dl or mmol/l. 1 Δεκ 2022 · Specifically, the A1C test measures what percentage of hemoglobin proteins in your blood are coated with sugar (glycated). Hemoglobin proteins in red blood cells transport oxygen. The higher your A1C level is, the poorer your blood sugar control and the higher your risk of diabetes complications.
