College Baseball Academics Part 1: An Overview. As with any introductory article, we provide a general overview of the common academic support services available to student-athletes and discuss a broad view of the academic side of playing baseball in college.
Luckily, nowadays nearly every college baseball team has some sort of academic support to help players have success in their scholarly pursuits. As a recruit, however, you should never make assumptions about the resources that a particular program has to offer.
College baseball is baseball that is played by student-athletes at institutions of higher education. In the United States, college baseball is sanctioned mainly by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA); in Japan, it is governed by the All Japan University Baseball Federation (JUBF).
The priority positions for baseball recruiting are pitchers, catchers, shortstops and center fielders. Coaches typically build their roster through the middle of the field. Other positions can be in line for scholarships, but it depends on the coach’s specific roster needs.
