In our study in the book of Acts the enemy has now tried several ways to stop the church from moving. First, he tried outside opposition. The religious leaders arrested Peter and John and warned them not to speak in the name of Jesus anymore.

29 But Peter and the apostles replied, "We must obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had murdered by hanging Him on a tree. 31 God exalted this man to His right hand as ruler and Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Selfishness creates violence, the demand to have your own way, do your own thing, stand up for your own rights, this -- spread large across a nation -- creates pools of dissent and attrition against one another, and results in waves of violence with bloodshed breaking out everywhere. We are clearly in one of those "times of peril" today.
