Addiction is a difficult journey that few can truly understand, even among experts in the field. As someone who is currently struggling with addiction, I know firsthand how isolating and overwhelming it can feel. It can be difficult to find others who truly understand the depths of the struggle and the hard work it takes to overcome it.

The Addiction Severity Index--Fifth Edition (ASI; McLellan et al., 1992) was developed to be an updated interview measure for substance-dependent patients. In creating the fifth edition, the original ASI (McLellan et al., 1980) was revised to include a new section on family history of alcohol, drug, and psychiatric problems.
The Addiction Severity Index (ASI) is a multidimensional interview used to measure the substance use, health, and social problems of those with alcohol and other drug problems, both at admission to treatment and subsequently at follow‐up contacts.
