You must complete this task within four weeks of filing your application in order to remain eligible for benefits (unless your work search and reemployment activity requirement has been waived). See your “New Claim Instruction Sheet” for your deadline date.
Apply for unemployment benefits as soon as you become unemployed. Your application will be effective the week it was filed. Your first payment will begin processing after you (1) receive your eligibility determination AND (2) file your first weekly claim.

File a New Claim - What to Expect. The online initial application takes about 25 minutes. You will need to file a new claim if you have not applied for unemployment benefits at any time in the past 12 months. Your application is not filed until you receive a confirmation number.
