Dismantling ageism in healthcare, in hospitals, and specifically in acute and critical care nursing might feel insurmountable. In reality, we have many resources and allies. Why not consider these options for action in your own nursing practice and share them at your unit's next staff meeting?
1 Μαρ 2023 · This systematic review aimed to summarise and update the existing knowledge about ageism among nursing students. We used the PEO question formatting tool to frame the research question as follows: (P)opulation: student nurses, (E)xposure: Ageism, (O)utcome: Perception and attitudes of ageism.
This article provided an overview of the fundamental nature of ageism in nursing in health care settings and introduced a new definition for ageism in nursing that included all the defining attributes of the concept.
3 Ιουλ 2019 · Ageism has well-established negative effects on the physical and mental health of older people. Findings suggest that relatively low-cost, feasible strategies involving education and intergenerational contact can serve as the basis of effective interventions to reduce ageism.
3 Μαρ 2024 · We found evidence on the presence of ageism in older nurses' workplace and the detrimental effects of ageism on older nurses' well-being and continuation of practice. Importantly, we identified a lack of organisational initiatives to address ageism and support older nurses.
