3 Μαρ 2024 · This study is the first review to investigate ageism in older nurses' practice settings. The study aimed to provide synthesised evidence on the impact of ageism and interventions to ameliorate ageism in older nurses' employment context.
In this review article the author describes some of the literature related to ageism in nursing, discusses how ageism can affect the quality of the care that is provided to older adult patients, and explains theories that may help explain ageism in nursing.
Dismantling ageism in healthcare, in hospitals, and specifically in acute and critical care nursing might feel insurmountable. In reality, we have many resources and allies. Why not consider these options for action in your own nursing practice and share them at your unit's next staff meeting?
Aim: Ageism in health care delivery and nursing poses a fundamental threat to health and society. In this commentary, implications of age discrimination are presented to generate an agenda for action in nursing management.

This article provided an overview of the fundamental nature of ageism in nursing in health care settings and introduced a new definition for ageism in nursing that included all the defining attributes of the concept.
