At the time it was just about as wide as you could go on a cropped sensor camera (24mm). I have overall been very pleased with its performance. It is very sharp corner to corner even on my newer 5d (certainly more so than my 17-40L), has a very pleasing colour rendition and and has ample contrast.
The Sigma Zoom 15-30mm D 1: 3.5-4.5 DG EX Aspherical IF is an interesting ultra wide-angle lens that can be used on full frame cameras. For full frame cameras, 15mm focal lengths give a very, very wide viewing angle, equal to approximately 111 degrees (true, only on the diagonal of the frame).
You will end up changing the mid zoom lens very often. Sigma 15-30mm offers a much better focal range from wide zoom to mid zoom. (22.5mm to 45mm) In fact, i think this range is even more versatile than having a 10-20mm or 12-24mm which is too short should you wish to do street photography closes up etc .
Really very good lens, for the price. Light body for the wide focal range and 17 elements inside, Sigma did a very good job here, easy to handle and stabilize. Nice image quality overall, the flares are biggest flaw. Fast AF for action, if your camera has a good AF drive (only 25º to turn from closest to infinity).
