Following the merger with Airtel Bangladesh, the merged company, Robi Axiata PLC (Robi) started its commercial operation on 16 November 2016. As of now, this is the biggest ever merger of the country and first ever merger in the mobile telecom sector of Bangladesh.
On 16 November 2016, Airtel Bangladesh was merged into Robi as a product brand of Robi, where Robi Axiata PLC is the licensee of Airtel brand only in Bangladesh. Having successfully completed the merger process, Robi has emerged as the second largest mobile phone operator in Bangladesh.
Alcatel Mobile Bangladesh. Alcatel (formerly Alcatel OneTouch) is a French brand of mobile handsets owned by Finnish consumer electronics company Nokia and used under license by Chinese electronics company TCL Corporation.
Robi is the second largest mobile network operator in Bangladesh, creating new digital experiences for the people of the country through innovative digital products and services and a country-wide telecom infrastructure network that serves as the key enabler for its growing digital ecosystem.
There are four mobile phone operators in Bangladesh, operating under the names of Banglalink, Grameenphone, Robi and TeleTalk. The number of mobile phone subscribers in Bangladesh as of April 2015 was 124.705 million, [8] having risen from the February 2009 figure of 45.21 million. [9]
