The NMLEA is established to provide a planned program of basic training and in-service law enforcement training by furnishing instruction and seminars to constantly upgrade law enforcement within the state (§ 29-7-2, NMSA 1978).

9 Αυγ 2022 · SANTA FE – The New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy (LEA) has launched a series of free training courses that will modernize New Mexico’s law enforcement training curriculum and reorient certified police officers on best practices when interacting with the public.
The Law Enforcement Academy is a rigorous 14-week training program designed to prepare you for work as a law enforcement professional. The program provides basic police training that can qualify you for certification by the Alaska Police Standards Council.

The New Mexico Law Enforcement Standards and Training Council is established in NMSA §29-7-3 and administratively attached to the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy of the Department of Public Safety, which shall provide staff support for the council.
