Adults—200 to 300 milligrams (mg) per day, taken once a day or in divided doses. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed. However, the dose is usually not more than 800 mg per day.

Dosage. Allopurinol comes as 100mg to 300mg tablets that you take every day. Follow your doctor's advice on how many tablets to take, and how many times a day. You'll usually start on a low dose of allopurinol, but if your uric acid level does not come down far enough, your doctor may increase your dose (up to 900mg daily in severe cases).
Consider starting allopurinol at 100 mg or less daily and febuxostat at 40 mg or less daily. Dosing should be increased every two to five weeks to reduce serum urate levels to 6 mg per dL...
