The Almeida Theatre is a 325-seat producing house located on Almeida Street off Upper Street in the London Borough of Islington. The theatre opened in 1980, and produces a diverse range of drama. Successful plays are often transferred to West End theatres.

Whereas the Victorian and Edwardian theatres of the West End are recovered relics of a golden age of theatrical architecture, the Almeida is a modernised and imaginative response to another kind of early Victorian 1837 establishment, a lecture hall, for the neighbourhood’s Scientific and Literary Institution.
