1 Ιουν 2011 · Calculating Cost per Pound and Ounce: Most of us will sell fleece by the ounce or by the pound so when you’re figuring your costs you want to know what your costs are in terms of costs per ounce or costs per pound of fleece. I narrow this down to what it costs to care for 1 alpaca per year.

On average, alpaca wool prices vary between 10 and 100 euros per kilogram, but it can be higher for higher quality or rarer fibres. Balls of alpaca wool can also vary in price, depending on the quantity and quality of the wool used to make them. A scarf can cost between 80 and 100 euros, while jumpers and ponchos will cost around 200 euros.
A pound of fine alpaca fiber can be sold for $48 (at $3/oz), while yarn made from that pound of fiber can be sold for around $60, and a sweater made from that pound for up to $200. Additional processing adds additional value and marketability.

During the past decade alpaca fibre prices have followed similar cycles and trends to cashmere and fine merino prices. The average 16-micron price has been strongly correlated with adult alpaca tops since 2013 and gives a reasonable idea of the likely value for this alpaca category.
