The problem with it was that, if a show got picked up, it was a year long wait between the pilot and the rest of the season after those episodes had been made. Some shows were able to survive it like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Sneaky Pete, and The Tick. Most shows didn't though and Amazon stopped doing it.
Does anyone recall the Amazon Pilot back in 2017 called 'Oasis'? This was one of the best Sci-fi shows I've ever seen, its got 3012 reviews on Amazon which equates to 5 stars (compared to other popular series its got way more ratings, and they've only aired a single pilot episode!).
