8 Σεπ 2006 · In order to adhere to BATF regulations I decided to purchase a USA piston and install it on the AMD 65. First there is a big difference between the AMD 65 and other AK 47's. The barrel length is only 12.5" which effects many other parts of the gun and legalities.
23 Δεκ 2011 · The AMD-65 has a 12 inch barrel, but somewhere along the line the BATF made a ruling that allows these shorter barrels so long as there is a permanently attached (i.e. welded) muzzle brake that brings the overall barrel length up to 16.25 inches.
21 Φεβ 2024 · AMD-65 has a 12.7 inch (320 mm) barrel, and such a weird length is easy to explain – it was the shortest that could fit all the original components, so the factory didn’t have to spend a dime on a new gas block or front sight.
These are made to bring Hungarian AMD 65 rifles to the legal 16" length and not require pin or welding an extension. The chamber end of the barrels measure .9075" to .908". This item is made in the United States and counts as a 922r compliant part.
The AMD-65 is a Hungarian-manufactured variant of the AKM and uses the same gas-operated rotating bolt. Unlike the best known of the short-barreled AK variations—the AKSU-74—the AMD-65 does not require the bulbous gas expansion chamber at the muzzle to ensure reliable operation.
