6 Νοε 2021 · The Bilbo Complex, east of Downtown Savannah consisted of a canal connecting with the Savannah River, a circular harbor and an island in the center. Ports like this one, but a much later date, were built along the coasts of the Iberian Peninsula and the western Mediterranean Sea.

17 Φεβ 2020 · Near Downtown Savannah is an extraordinary cluster of ancient mounds. Archaeologists Joseph Caldwell and Antonio Waring first studied the Bilbo Mound in 1941. The mound was partially excavated by WPA-funded laborers under the supervision of these two famous archaeologists.

The Historic Savannah-Ogeechee Barge Canal is one of the prime relics in the history of southern canals. Chartered in 1824, the Savannah - Ogeechee Canal was constructed between 1826 and 1830 by African and Irish laborers who moved thousands of cubic yards of earth.
