This book is a kind of a prayer-book or a ceremonial book. It is designated not to be read only once and put away, but to be continuously used. This book is intended to be used by Kemetic priests and priestesses and equally by anyone who wants to perform those ceremonies and rituals.
From stealing, lying, cursing, bribery, and betrayal, this essay will attempt to observe and outline the traditional values which dominated ancient Egyptian society. Texts that will be examined range from autobiographical inscriptions and stela from the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms as well as the First and Second Intermediate Periods.
Religion and Ritual in Ancient Egypt This book is a vivid reconstruction of the practical aspects of ancient Egyptian religion. Through an examination of artifacts and inscriptions, the text explores a variety of issues. For example, who was allowed to enter the temples, and what rituals were performed therein? Who served as priests?
Subsequent chapters cover Egyptian religion, history, and social organization; the daily lives of Egypt’s inhabitants; and, fi nally, Egyptian funerary customs. A chronology, glossary, list of Egyptological resources, and select bibliography provide fur-ther tools for an understanding and exploration of ancient Egypt.
