Maya Textile Art. The Maya are one of the largest and most influential indigenous cultures in the Americas. Notably, they are very well-known for their textile arts. Their weaving and embroidery stands out because of its unique bright dyes and complex patterns.
This catalog displays the variety and artistry of the modern survivals of ancient Maya dress. They illustrate the diversity of local styles expressed in the artists’ choices of fibers, dye colors, fabric texture, decorative patterns, types of attire and manner of wearing them.

This presentation will contrast other writing systems of the ancient world to that of the Maya, and reveal how Mesoamerican the ancient Maya and their writing system truly were.

This paper examines the evidence for the production and distribution of cloth that is found in the pre-Columbian Maya area and then focuses on archaeological data relative to textiles from the ancient Maya city of Caracol, Belize.
This exhibit demonstrated several important themes from across the museum’s Guatemalan textile collection: continuity from the ancient Maya to today; the technical skills and artistry of Maya weavers; daily wear and ceremonial textiles; and evolution of designs in huipiles (traditional blouses).
