Ben Kiernan’s Việt Nam: A History from Earliest Times to the Present is the latest in a series of one-volume histories of Vietnam published in the last five years, following Keith Taylor’s A History of the Vietnamese (Cambridge University Press, ) and Christopher Goscha’s Vietnam: A New History (Basic Books, ).
