15 Δεκ 2011 · During the Vietnam War from 1965 through 1973, thousands of Cavalrymen — aviators, scouts, infantrymen, door gunners, wrench turning maintenance men, cooks, administrative and staff personnel – served in the 1/9 Cavalry.
22 Μαρ 2001 · SGT Gary Rogney Scout Platoon A Troop 1/9th Cavalry, March 1966 preparing to fly out to LZ Oasis from Ahn Khe which was a desolate, vegetation-free firebase in the Central Highlands of Vietnam in the IDrang River valley near the Cambodian border.
The 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry remained in Vietnam until 28 June 1971. During their time in Vietnam, elements of the 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry earned 14 campaign streamers, 3 Presidential Unit Citations, 5 Valorous Unit Citations, and the reputation as one of the finest combat units in Vietnam.
5 Οκτ 2011 · The valley had long been suspected of being a significant Viet Cong (VC)/ North Vietnamese Army (NVA) sanctuary and the Cav. was preparing to find out. In the early morning of Friday, Aug. 4 th , Charlie Troop saddled up, pulled pitch and flew towards the Song Re with eager anticipation.
The camp was named after 1/9 Cavalry Major Donald Radcliff, the 1st Cavalry's first combat death, who was killed on 18 August 1965 while supporting U.S. Marines in his helicopter gunship during Operation Starlite.
28 Ιουλ 2009 · 1st Air Cavalry Division Charlie Troop, First Squadron, 9th Cavalry was 100% mobile and made up of three platoons, aero scout platoon ( White ), aero weapons platoon ( Red ) and aero rifle platoon ( Blue ).
