The NIH Revitalization Act of 1993 directed the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support research to replace, reduce, and refine animal use in biomedical research, and to develop and validate alternatives to animal use for acute and chronic safety testing.
Replacing animal tests does not mean putting human patients at risk. It also does not mean halting medical progress. Instead, replacing animals used in testing will improve the quality as well as the humanity of our science. Thankfully, the development of non-animal methods is growing, and fast.
3 Ιουν 2021 · At the JRC’s Ispra site in Italy, the EU Reference Laboratory for alternatives to animal testing (EURL ECVAM) has been developing, validating and promoting scientific methods to replace animal tests for 30 years.
5 Δεκ 2022 · When it comes to animal-free research and testing, a chasm between what’s possible and what’s used exists for various reasons, including a lack of trust in less familiar methods, complicated and slow regulatory uptake and inadequate funding.
Over the last two decades, the European Commission has substantially supported alternatives to animal testing. Projects supported by the European Commission.
By employing new techniques and methods, we can increasingly address research questions without resorting to animal experiments. For example, by analysing DNA. Sometimes, researchers can also replace certain animal experiments with cell cultures or explore vascular problems using human tissue.
24 Μαΐ 2011 · In line with the 3Rs principle, ZEBET’s main priority is to reduce the number of laboratory animals to the absolutely necessary minimum, to refine experimental procedures and housing of animals, to minimize pain and suffering and, if possible, to replace animal experiments with alternative methods.
