  1. If you want to increase the challenge rating (and thus xp) then the MM offers a guide of how, but I admit its not a simple cut and paste. If you wanted to make a fight more challenging, consider symbiosis of opponents, a goblin is great, but sometimes you want a goblin wolf rider.

  2. 24 Οκτ 2021 · Standard encounters are worth 1 unit of XP. Easy are 1/2 of that, Hard 1.5x that, and Deadly 2x that. Playtesting (or models) tells you where these thresholds lie. A CR 2 creature is 2.25x CR 1 XP; it is beyond deadly.

They provide you with 1) attack damage for a 2-hit multiattack, 2) an area-of-effect option, and 3) a guideline for what level spells the monster might have. The "1x" in the CR1/2 column means only one attack. CR 3 and 4 have a "+2 damage" for their AoE.

Keep in mind that this will be every turn unless the monsters take the time to stop and kill Elk, in which case they're soaking up attacks that would otherwise be going into your party.

  6. All monsters from the 5th Edition (5e) SRD (System Reference Document), organized by challenge rating (CR)
