24 Οκτ 2021 · Standard encounters are worth 1 unit of XP. Easy are 1/2 of that, Hard 1.5x that, and Deadly 2x that. Playtesting (or models) tells you where these thresholds lie. A CR 2 creature is 2.25x CR 1 XP; it is beyond deadly.
Enter expected CR of the creature. Fill in the HP, AC, and other defensive attributes of the creature. Fill in offensives attributes of the creature. DPR is averaged over three rounds! Add any special Monster Features of creature.
WotC has an in-house calculator that includes several other features and seems to balance things a different way. You can see that the DMG version of calculating CR isn't correct by trying to reverse engineer many creatures' CRs using it.
22 Μαΐ 2024 · Enter the party's levels. Higher-level adventurers can face greater challenges, and so their levels determine which encounters are pushovers and which are deadly threats. The XP (experience point) thresholds of the encounter difficulties are shown below your party's makeup.
This tool works by looking at the stats entered for a certain monster and comparing them to the average values in the table for a monster of the same CR, calculating a ratio for each one. The tool then looks at the average stat values for a monster of the CR you want to scale it to and multiplies them by that ratio.
