Pancreatitis in dogs is an inflammatory reaction within the pancreas that can result in abdominal pain, inappetence, and vomiting. Affected dogs may display a praying position. In this position, the dog will raise their hind end in the air and bow their head down towards their front legs.
Loss of appetite, vomiting, weakness, abdominal pain, dehydration, and diarrhea are the most common signs reported in dogs with severe pancreatitis. Dogs with milder forms of the disease may have no signs or nonspecific signs, such as loss of appetite, lethargy, and diarrhea.
A dog with acute pancreatitis normally shows clear and, occasionally, severe signs of abdominal discomfort or gastrointestinal upset, such as vomiting and diarrhoea. Sometimes, additional body systems are affected and, in some cases, there may be life-threatening or even fatal complications.
