Occiput anterior is usually the easiest position for the fetal head to traverse the maternal pelvis. Shown here is the "direct OA" position. While some fetuses deliver in this position, others deliver slightly rotated clockwise (LOA) or counterclockwise (ROA).
25 Μαρ 2013 · The landmarks depicting fetal occiput position are the midline cerebral echo (Figure 1), fetal thalami (Figure 1 a) and cerebellum (Figure 1 b) for occiput transverse and anterior positions, and the fetal orbits for occiput posterior position (Figure 2).
6 Μαρ 2024 · Occiput or cephalic anterior: This is the best fetal position for childbirth. It means the fetus is head down, facing the birth parent’s spine (facing backward). Its chin is tucked towards its chest. The fetus will also be slightly off-center, with the back of its head facing the right or left.
In most cases, position is occiput anterior (OA) or is rotated slightly oblique. But, in perhaps 5 percent, an occiput posterior (OP) position persists. With each contraction, the vulvovaginal opening is dilated by the fetal head to gradually form an ovoid and finally, an almost circular opening.
Eight varieties of fetal cephalic position are described, 1, 2 and in most instances the fetal vertex enters the pelvis in the left occiput transverse (OT) or in the left occiput anterior (OA) position. 1

Normally, the presentation is vertex (head first), and the position is occiput anterior (facing toward the pregnant patient's spine) with the face and body angled to one side and the neck flexed.
