My thesis is that devil fruits can be explained by physics or at least by "science fiction" logic. I am going to be using a bit of scientifical data, so I tried I keep a good balance between easy-reding / entertaining and "backed up" or justified.

These Devil Fruits appear as the transformed version of a normal fruit. For example, the Yami Yami no Mi resembles grapes, while the Ito Ito no Mi resembles a pear.
Using it to weigh people down is really effective though. I don’t think anyone in the OP world can really negate increase in gravity. Also making the destroyed buildings and stuff float and using them as weapons was cool. Similar to what Blackbeard did, except BB put it into some sort of pocket dimension.
