In this article I'll provide two lists: one of essential key AP Language and Composition terms to know for the exam, and one list of useful bonus words that will serve you well on the exam. Then I'll advise how to learn and use these terms for AP success!
A P LITERARY TERMS. ALLEGORY story or poem in which characters, settings, and events stand for other people or events or for abstract ideas or qualities. EXAMPLE: Animal Farm; Dante’s Inferno; Lord of the Flies. ALLITERATION repetition of the same or similar consonant sounds in words that are close together.
Simple examples include ―jumbo shrimp‖ and ―cruel kindness.‖ Paradox – a statement that appears to be self-contradictory or opposed to common sense but upon closer inspection contains some degree of truth or validity.
