Founded in 1957, APERS provides retirement, disability, and death benefits. Participating employers include state departments, all counties, over 100 municipal entities, and school districts. Employees become vested after completing five years of service providing a secure income in retirement.
Created by Act 177 of 1957, the Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System (APERS) serves some 60,000 members, retirees, and beneficiaries. APERS is a cost sharing, multiple employer, defined benefit plan.
