Apollo 12 (November 14–24, 1969) was the sixth crewed flight in the United States Apollo program and the second to land on the Moon. It was launched on November 14, 1969, by NASA from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
As part of the Apollo program by NASA, 24 astronauts flew nine missions to the Moon between December 1968 and December 1972. During six successful two-man landing missions, twelve men walked on the lunar surface, six of whom drove Lunar Roving Vehicles as part of the last three missions.
All crewed moon landings took place between July 1969 and December 1972 as part of the United States Apollo program. All twelve people who have walked on the Moon are American men. To date, four of the twelve are still alive, including Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
NASA assigned 32 American astronauts to the Apollo lunar landing program, and 24, flying on nine missions between December 1968 and December 1972, orbited the Moon. During six two-man landing missions twelve astronauts walked on the lunar surface, and six of those drove Lunar Roving Vehicles.
Was instrumental in the development of the lunar roving vehicle used by the Apollo 15, 16, and 17 astronauts, and was commander of Skylab 4. Retired from the Marine Corps in September 1975 and resigned from NASA in June 1977.
10 Απρ 2019 · On April 10, 1969, NASA formally announced the crew for Apollo 12, the sixth crewed Apollo mission. If all went well on the flights preceding it, Apollo 12 would make the second human lunar landing about four months after the initial landing.
