The first step to certification in New York is to complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university. The bachelor’s degree major you pursue will depend on the grade level and subject you wish to teach. You must also complete a New-York approved teacher preparation program.
9 Φεβ 2024 · All teachers employed in the public schools in New York State must hold a valid certificate issued in accordance with Sections 3001 and 3009 of Education Law and Part 80 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.
Teacher Certification. New York State requires that all teachers, school leaders (administrators), and pupil personnel service providers who are employed or wish to become employed in the State’s public schools hold a New York State certificate.

A holder of an Initial certificate must apply to the New York State Department of Education for the Professional certificate upon completion of requirements. Note that there are new registration and continuing education requirements for Professional certificate holders.
