30 Ιουλ 2024 · The appendix is a small, finger-shaped organ that branches off the cecum. The cecum is a pouch situated at the junction of the small intestine and large intestine whose main role is to absorb fluids and salts that remain after the completion of intestinal digestion.

This structure helps in the proper movement and removal of waste matter in the digestive system, contains lymphatic vessels that regulate pathogens, and lastly, might even produce early defences that prevent deadly diseases.
