Transit visas for 48 hours are issued free of charge to passengers transiting through the UAE’s airports. You need to apply for the visa in advance through a UAE-based airline. This visa is not extendable, nor renewable.
The United Arab Emirates Transit Visa: Single-entry, on-arrival document. Allows passage through the UAE and stay between flights. Valid for 48 or 96 hours. Only for Abu Dhabi Airport entry. Application takes roughly 20 minutes, and the government processing time takes roughly 15 minutes. The requirements:

Airport authorities issue transit permits to individuals stopping at Abu Dhabi Airport for a period ranging from 8 hours to 4 days. The permit is valid for 14 days from the issuance date and is non-renewable.
GCC citizens do not need a visa to enter the UAE. Citizens of all other countries will need to apply for an Abu Dhabi tourist visa, transit visa or visit visa prior to their trip. If you are flying with Etihad Airways, a transit visa may be arranged for you upon request.
Additionally, travellers with a layover of more than 7 hours but less than 24 hours at Bahrain International Airport may qualify for a free transit visa during their connecting period as per the official Bahraini visa policy.
