A small, slender gray-and-white bird with angular wings, the Arctic Tern is well known for its long yearly migration. It travels from its Arctic breeding grounds to Antarctica where it enjoys the Antarctic summer, covering around 25,000 miles.

The Arctic tern is a short-legged seabird species that has narrow wings like pigeons have, except that they are a bit pointier and more elongated. The appearance of this bird largely depends on its age and the current season.
Arctic Terns are slender terns with long, angular wings and pointed wingtips. They have a small round head with a steep forehead and extremely short legs. Breeding adults have a deeply forked tail. Larger than a Least Tern, smaller than a Caspian Tern. Breeding adults are pale gray above and below.
Length: 25 - 40 cm (10 - 16 inches) Wingspan: 65 - 75 cm (25 - 30 inches) Weight: 85 - 125 grams (3 - 4.5 ounces) Location: Arctic and Antarctica. Conservation status: Least concern. Diet: Fish, crustaceans. Appearance: Grey and white with a black “cap” on their heads, and a red bill.
