The surface area of a rectangular prism can be found using the formula: Surface area = 2lw + 2lh + 2wh. GUIDED PRACTICE. A cube has edges measuring 6 centimeters each. Find the surface area of the cube. A rectangular prism measures 7 inches by 5 inches by 10 inches.
First, we find the area of the base. We will call this area B. B = 3 ( 2 ) = 6 cm2. The six square units of area are drawn on one of the bases in the diagram at the right. In the diagram at the right, each square unit of area on the base has now been used to draw a cubic unit of volume.
1) How could you determine the surface area of a triangular prism? Find the area of the bases (triangles) and the sides (rectangles) and add them all together.
Use either the STAAR formula chart to help answer the following problems. Show all work on separate paper including three steps for each problem: write the correct formula, fill in the numbers for the variables, and then solve the equation.
