For this lesson, students will find the area of irregular polygons by separating it into smaller identifiable regular polygons. Through a series of questions that I will ask students, they will develop steps that will be useful for finding the area of irregular polygons.
Area of Irregular Polygons. An irregular polygon is a plane closed shape that does not have equal sides and equal angles. Thus, in order to calculate the area of irregular polygons, we split the irregular polygon into a set of regular polygons such that the formulas for their areas are known.
