21 Ιουν 2024 · To formally address British royalty and aristocracy in person, give a small nod if you’re a male, or a brief bob by bending slightly at the knees if you’re a female. Then, let them initiate the conversation and use the full formal address in your initial reply, such as “Yes, your majesty,” for a royal member.
A marquess, earl or viscount is addressed as "Lord Title Name", and their wife as "Lady Title Name". A marquess's children are addressed the same as a duke's. Any son of an earl other than the eldest is addressed as 'Honourable', while the daughters have 'Lady' in front of their Christian name.
As a single example, Debrett's gives "Major-General the Lord ...", [6] and Pears' Cyclopaedia in the section on Modes of Address gives several examples where the definite article interior to a list of honours is lower case.
