Sparky the Sun Devil is the official mascot of Arizona State University. [2] Originally the ASU athletic teams' mascot was an owl, then became a "Normal" (because ASU was founded as a normal school).
Launched: December 7, 1994 (unveiling) March 20, 1995 (launch) Phoenix design firm Esser Design, owned by two ASU alumni, began work on this project in September 1994. This logo was chosen by the school out of five candidates (see above), and cost the school $57,000, paid for by the ASU Foundation.
