The red sheep is a hybrid between the Armenian mouflon (Ovis gmelini gmelini) and the trans-Caspian urial (O. vignei arkal), which occurs naturally in the Alborz Mountains of northern Iran. The Iranian Red Sheep are found mostly on private ranches in Texas now.
Back in September, I hunted with Rowdy McBride in West Texas for Aoudad, Red Sheep and Armenian Sheep. This guy has a first class operation AND is the only place in America for free range Red and Armenian Sheep!! The little sheep eluded us, but I was able to connect on a great Aoudad.
