The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle was one of the greatest thinkers of all time. His writings make up practically an encyclopedia of ancient Greek knowledge. Aristotle’s work influenced almost every area of modern thought.
Greek philosophers were "seekers and lovers of wisdom". They studied and analyzed the world around them using logic and reason. Although we often think of philosophy as religion or "the meaning of life", the Greek philosophers were also scientists. Many studied mathematics and physics as well.
Parrhasius, Zeuxis, and Apelles, the great painters of the 4th century bc, were famous as colorists. Polygnotus, in the 5th century, was renowned as a draftsman. Fortunately we have many examples of Greek vases. Some were preserved in tombs; others were uncovered by archaeologists in other sites.
