In this in-depth article we take a look at the artisan food and drink industry and answer some key questions such as: What is the difference between artisanal food and normal food? What does it really mean to be an artisan product? What do artisans do?
Artisanal food production refers to the creation of food products by hand or through traditional methods, often emphasizing quality, craftsmanship, and local ingredients. This approach prioritizes small-scale production and personal touch over mass manufacturing, connecting consumers to the cultural heritage of food and the people who make it.
Food artisans make cheeses, breads and baked goods, charcuterie and other foods that involve food preservation or fermentation, home preservation or canning processes, and fruit preserves, cured meats, beverages, oils, and vinegars.
Based on the 1996 World Food Summit, food security is defined when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.
