13 Φεβ 2020 · The prominent location featured in ‘Shutter Island’ is the Ashecliffe Hospital for the criminally insane on Shutter Island. The primary filming location used for recreating the hospital is the Medfield State Hospital in the town of Medfield, about twenty miles southwest of Boston in Massachusetts.
U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels ( Leonardo DiCaprio) and his partner Marshal Chuck Aule ( Mark Ruffalo) arrive at Shutter Island to investigate the escape of Rachel Solando, a criminally-insane patient who has mysteriously escaped from Ashecliffe Prison, the only facility on the island.
The rocky shoreline and sheer cliff faces here were actually filmed at Otter Cliff in Maine’s Acadia National Park, around 50 miles southeast of Bangor. Shooting here reportedly involved a crew of 40 people and the use of a 70-foot crane.
