Not sure where you posted, or the people you knew but here's a link of others gathering after Topix closed. There's a former poster that has opened up a new forum with about 40 Topix users there, that's doing very well, and is a nice group.

Hi Ashville, I'm new to the area. I just moved to Marion in Mcdowell county. Seems pretty dead here. Having lots of problems meeting people. I also noticed the only forum that seems active it Marion Topix, which is just full of Racism and people bashing. So I took the liberty of creating a Mcdowell County reddit.
One of the most divisive and controversial forms of social media is no more. Topix, the internet site that allowed sickos, troublemakers and muckrakers to post anything they wanted anonymously, has been shut down by the owner.
