If you search on Steam (specifically in the “Guides” section of the community hub) you should find a fix for this titled “Xbox Controller Fix”. I replayed all of the games recently and I needed to find fixes for various things.
Wireless Xbox 360 fix for Assassin's Creed I and II. Should work the same for Series X controller. Also update controller firmware with xbox accessories app if you haven't already.

7 Ιαν 2022 · Go to steam library, right click on Odyssey, go to properties, controller, and see if it says that xbox controller is in fact enabled for the game. Double check the ACO.ini and that text is there, save, and make sure is not set to read only. Do not leave open or in preview in explorer. Try again.
On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller. If it says “Update,” select Firmware version, and then follow the steps provided.
